There is Only One, True, Les Miserables
For some reason I went searching in my iTunes for Les Miserables. I found some paltry, sad version of the musical…and it wasn’t jivin.
You see, in high school I used to listen to this thing day in and DAY OUT. The kids in my school drove into the parking lot blasting rock or country, and what was I blasting for all the world to hear?
LES MIS.
Oh yeah…and I can probably still sing the entire 3-disc musical from top to bottom. Sooooo…you can imagine my dismay when I went on my iTunes and found some weird synth-version of the show. Yuck.
So I quickly went to the iTunes music store and found the Original Symphonic Complete Recording (or whatever) that I had in High School. I started that sucker up and as SOON as Jean ValJean started singing…goosebumps everywhere…and floods of memories that came back to me right in that moment.
It was crazy-weird.
Music is pretty powerful stuff, eh?
Well–all that to say–if you ever need to get a copy of Les Mis–GET THIS ONE.
BOOM.only 13.99 on iTunes for the whole thing–all 44 tracks of glory and goodness.

Or get the OTHER real true version, which is the 10th Anniversary Dream Cast in concert live at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Colm Wilkinson as ValJean and Michael Ball as Marius = a.maz.ing.
@her_plaintive_melody - Michael Ball is also Marius on this recording…and Javert is the same too (many roles are, actually). And I DO like the version of which you speak, however, I like the Jean ValJean on my version better…like…WAYYYYYY better.
But it is a good version!
Oh yeah…but mine is the COMPLETE show, not just 2 discs worth…3 whole discs!!!
@dsemsen - Interesting. I’ll have to give this recording of yours a try and compare the ValJeans. And I do agree that it would be nice to have the complete show, but it also is nice to be surprised at the “extra” songs when I see a live show because my recording doesn’t include them.
@her_plaintive_melody - HA…good point!
Well–the only thing missing from this fabulous iTunes version of the 3-Disc musical is the fabulous 50 page booklet containing a TON of info about the story. I scoured through that thing daily…
I’m such a nerd.
