  • Oscar Thoughts

I wasn't able to watch the show, but I listened to some of the results while driving home from San Diego.

Let me just say that I saw Slumdog Millionaire on Saturday (and Gran Turino), and Slumdog was a fantastic movie. It was brilliantly made, and deserves to be recognized as a great film...

But it was NOT--repeat--NOT the Best Picture of the year.

Nor did it deserve to win Best Score.  I paid attention to the music, it was fine...but it was not worthy of that award.

So if Daniel was on the Academy of voters, what would he have voted for?
Best Picture: Dark Knight (by a miiiiiile)
Best Score: Wall-E (even though I didn't really like the film).

    How about you?

  • in agreement for best score- but i LOVE slumdog; it was my fav of the year.  in fact its now one of my all time fav movies.  i didn't stay awake for all of the dark knight so i can't judge off of that; and benjamin button bored the pants off of me.  didnt see any other nominees

  • I loved SM, but I thought The Reader was better. INCREDIBLE movie. Kate Winslet really deserved that best actress, so I'm glad she got it.

  • Slumdog was amazing- totally deserved it.  I will defer to you on score, though- you are better at that then I am.  Dark Night?  No way, crazy Semsen!

  • to Heidi- In the words of Hugh, "Reader!  I didn't see the Reader!"

  • I only saw Dark Knight, and it was awesome . . . but I hate to commit since I haven't seen the others yet . . . Although I saw a bunch of scenes from The Reader after a GG special, and that looked really good . . .

  • Daniel,

I agree with you, SM dog was a good movie, well written, but not well acted, it kind of distracted me a bit.  Freida Pinto (i think that's how you spell her name) is a very attractive girl, and that distracted me too :) .

  • Dark Knight wasn't technically nominated for best picture--Milk, Reader, Frost/Nixon, Slumdog, and Benjamin Button were...but I still think Dark Knight was the best!!!
