  • Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan

I think my favorite Star Trek movie of all time is Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan. This is nothing original since it is many a fan’s favorite film, but I am also fond of VI (Undiscovered Country) because it was a wonderful signing off of the original cast (literally), and I like First Contact because it was intense, action-packed, and a film that reached beyond Trek fans to a more general audience.

I’ve seen all of the films several times, dating back to the days when I was a young little pip. But Christy is only a fan since we got married…and her conversion to Trekkie-ness is a story for another time…
But Christy wants to get back in the Star Trek groove because she read some book about it and is all fired up. She even wants to watch The Original Series…so here we go again…and we started last night with Star Trek: The Motion Picture…a.k.a. possibly the most boring movie of all time.

But the next one’s waaaay better…

    OK. Trek nerds unite.

What is YOUR favorite Trek movie?

…and I’m expecting to AT LEAST get comments from Travis, my parents, my sis, Scotlas, Mike, Heidi, and a few more of you…come on…don’t be shy…

  • I need a minute. To recover.

  • You are a dork.

I like the one with the nuclear wessels and the colorful metaphors. Which one is that? 4?

  • Yeah, the nuclear wessels were IV, “The Voyage Home”.  I have a tough time choosing between “The Wrath of Khan” and “The Voyage Home”.  I still cry when Spock dies, and Ricardo Montalban as Khan is just the ultimate old-school villain, but the interactions of the crew and contemporary Americans in “Home” were priceless.  Scotty trying to talk to the computer via the mouse, and then calling a keyboard “quaint”.  McCoy accusing 80′s doctors of being barbaric and from the Dark Ages.  You gotta love it.

  • For watchability and humor, I always liked IV, with the killer whales.  I also enjoyed “Generations” in the theater, with that awesome crash scene.  And a couple of years ago, I watched “Insurrection” again and realized how very well done it was.

“The Motion Picture” made no sense.

  • I am a slacker and have not seen most of the old ones.  I keep planning on catching up and have not had a chance.  But I grew up watching the TNG movies and am a major Generations fan!!!  Though the one where Deanna crashes the ship is pretty hilarious.

  • IV is funny and entertaining, but when push comes to shove it nowhere near reaches the greatness and epic nature of II. Khan is the best. Hands down. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…. or the one. You have been and always shall be my friend… live long… and prosper….

  • *hands a tissue to MikeknaJ and then slaps him across the face*

  • I’m going to stab you with a bat’leth. Right in the ovaries.

  • Hmm…no bites for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier?

Insurrection was waaaaay under-appreciated. And so was Nemesis, frankly. I like that one. Didn’t think anything was wrong with it. I don’t know why it got such a bad rap…wrap?

    anywho…

still waiting to hear from some more of you!!!

  • I already told you that you’re not getting anywhere near my ovaries.

  • Hey Daniel… I was there when The Motion Picture was first released, and most reviewers and fans thought it was too slow and overly self-indulgent.  I suppose they were right, but I enjoyed it anyway, and I’ll say this in its defense: that of all of the Star Trek movies it’s the least like an episode of the television series and the most like a big-screen movie.  The Wrath of Khan, on the other hand, is exactly the opposite; that is, it plays just like an extended episode of the original series.  Not that I didn’t enjoy it; it just seemed as if the producers were playing it a little too safe….  I agree with April regarding The Voyage Home: clearly the most entertaining of the six Star Trek movies and the only one with a sense of humor.  Speaking of which, where was Shatner’s sense of humor when he made The Final Frontier?  Evidently he has one, or managed to develop one in his old age.  Anyway, I must have given up on the series after Star Trek V, because I can’t remember seeing The Undiscovered Country. – Uncle Lee

  • Uncle Lee!  Wow- it’s a family reunion.  Daniel, you should blog more stuff like this!

  • My vote is for either IV or VI.

  • I remember watching one of the movies on tour. I did not want to watch it, and thought it was kind of lame that I had to since everyone else was sleeping on the entire bus with the exception of me and the guy sitting next to me. I had never seen it before and I’m not sure which one it was. BUT I do remember sitting there predicting correctly ever single plot point. That is my sum experience of Star Trek movies. The only Star Trek I ever really liked was The Next Generation.

  • ALRIGHT UNCLE LEE!

What a treat to hear from you!

You should definitely comment more often! And check out Undiscovered Country, because it’s great.

  • oops. that was Daniel.

  • I’ve seen a few of the movies, but I have no interest.

Dude, do something CONSTRUCTIVE with your time!  =)

  • (I wouldn’t have said anything, but you told me to comment…)

  • @sc0tlas - OH believe me. Something constructive with my time is being done. I’m just not bragging about it on the internets like a big jerk. :)
I’m not saying you’re a jerk…I’m just saying that I’m not talking about everything in my life that is going on…just the bloggy stuff.
    I’m sure you understand.
Also, going to movies is constructive. It’s called “Film score study” and I DO. Study the score.

    And it’s a write-off.
    Booyah.

  • You don’t even know what a write-off is…

  • I’m writing all of you off.

  • Jerry :     So were going to make the Post Office pay for my new stereo?

Kramer : It’s just a write off for them.

Jerry :     How is it a write off?

Kramer : They just write it off.

Jerry :     Write it off what?

Kramer : Jerry all these big companies they write off everything

Jerry :     You don’t even know what a write off is.

    Kramer : Do you?

    Jerry :     No. I don’t.

Kramer : But they do and they are the ones writing it off.

Jerry :     I wish I just had the last twenty seconds of my life back.
