  • More Clause Nonsense

This was written in response to the Letter to the Editor that was written in response to that stupid article written about APU being too hard.
-First off, this isn’t the original author of the article rebutting
-Secondly, it’s all assumption and opinion, not based on fact
    -Thirdly, it’s ridiculous and stupid

    Dear Editor,

We are writing a response to the “Letter to the Editor,” section of The
Clause newspaper where Amy Spoelstra relayed her opinion about the “If
Only Life Was Easier,” article by Ariel Fortune. After reading her
response, we were quite outraged. Kathleen has worked with YWAM and
other missions for many years, traveling and working with children in
third world countries. Kristen has also lived in a third world country
for over a year due to financial troubles.

While we understand the point she was trying to convey, we don’t think
she got the memo….the article was a joke. The article’s point was to
simply poke fun at APU students and the little things we “complain”
about on a regular basis. It is hard to believe Amy has never rolled
her eyes at the trolley or made sure to bring a sweater to a particular
class. As students, we do not “complain” about the little things in
order to prompt social action among the APU community, but more to
laugh at the things we actually complain about.

Amy needs to get off her Christian high horse and stop judging Clause
writers who were just trying to make APU students laugh. From our own
experience, people and opinions like Amy’s have fueled our
non-Christian friends desire to stay clear of the Church. The problem
with Amy’s perspective is that the article was not trying to show how
selfish APU students were; but to show in a joking manner how much we
allow ourselves to complain about something so meaningless. We agree
with Amy in the sense of being thankful for our blessings, but the way
she perceived and interpreted the article was taken out of context.

    She just doesn’t get it.

    Sincerely,
    Kathleen D+++++++ & Kristen J++++++

This just makes me angry. I mean, I know I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but if you’re going to write a satirical article then you need to give at least a hint that it’s not your real opinion. Otherwise it’s just left up to interpretation of whatever sucker is reading the darn thing.

If you’re interested in reading the other two articles, they can be found in my entry here.

    ARGH!!!!!

  • From our own experience, people and opinions like Amy’s have fueled our non-Christian friends desire to stay clear of the Church.

Geez. Wait, so her opinions that people who are blessed and fortunate shouldn’t complain so much about the little things and maybe focus their attention on pouring out the love of God to those less fortunate makes non-Christians stay away from the church? Hmmm. Good point, gals.

^I was kidding, BTW. Just to make that clear. :)

  • >>>I was kidding, BTW. Just to make that clear. :)

    OH PUUUUHLEASE!!!

Hm…I guess then if you’re writing and cannot convey tone or inflection, then it’s OK if you KNOW the person well enough to know that they are joking…hm

  • Well, obviously she wasn’t a good enough writer to show she was joking, OR these girls THINK it was a joke.

  • These girls are a joke. :)

  • I thought it was pretty obvious that it was satire…

  • ^^Seriously?

  • I’m not sure that a single person, well, besides Mike, maybe, thought that the original article was satirical. Sure, bits of it were so ridiculous that I really hoped the author was joking, but it sure didn’t sound that way to me…

  • I don’t understand why the Clause is allowing to other girls to blast the original response to the original article. Why didn’t they just issue a statement saying it was supposed to be a satrical article and leave it at that, instead of stiring up things more and making that Amy girl feel like and idiot. Last time I checked that didn’t fall under WWJD. But hey, that’s just me.

  • ^^I KNOW!!!!!!!!!

  • It just appears to me to be typical of Christian college journalism.  That and an attempt at satire that went below standard sums up my opinion.  Perhaps the editor should have cut the article initially or returned it for revisions; but, whatever, it’s probably time to move on and let it go.

  • I’ve got the new United (hillsong) album. It’s terrific.

  • Like the super-terrific happy hour starring Jerry Seinfeld? (only airing in China)…

    Japan

  • DANG IT. Whatever.
