Dear Cancer, I HATE YOU. Hydranencephaly, You’re a Jerk Too
My family could use your prayers right now, if you’re the prayin’ type.
A week ago my mom had a biopsy, and on Friday night she called to let me know that she has Stage Zero Breast Cancer.
UGH. Stupid Cancer! Grrr…
The good news, however, is that they doctor caught it early. Stage zero is pretty good…I guess (as if anything about having cancer could be remotely “good”). She’ll go in for an operation in a week, and then endure 6 weeks of radiation after that. They doctor is hopeful that after the treatments they cancer will be 100% eradicated, but they will be watching her for the rest of her life to see if this beast rears its ugly head again.
And another prayer request:
Right now my brother and his wife are at Stanford having their baby, whom was diagnosed several months ago with Hydranencephaly. This is a crazy disorder where there are sacs of fluid instead of a brain. This child may only live moments or days…we have no idea…so we all are waiting on pins and needles as they are in the hospital.
I REALLY TRY TO KEEP IT DRAMA-FREE around here, but this is quite the exception.
Like I said–if you’re the praying type–The Semsen family would appreciate your prayers.
Thank you, friends!

Praying, friend…
@klappyanne - thanks, Klappy…
Continually praying Daniel! Thanks for keeping us posted. I am so sorry you guys are getting hit with so much right now! May the Holy Spirit bring you comfort, as ONLY He can, at this time! We love you guys my friend! <3
@ducky2day - you are such a blessing! Thank you, Carleene! As of now, we still feel very removed…it’s more likely the rest of my sweet fam that is really dealing with the brunt of this all…but we are praying praying praying for them…
@dsemsen - You got it Daniel! So sorry all of this is happening to your family. You guys are always in my prayers and your family will be too now. Love you guys! Please keep us up dated.
You’re right, cancer is an awful thing! How wonderful that they caught your mom’s cancer so early, so much
easier to deal with it. They have done so much research and are constantly coming up with new and better treatments.
Daniel, don’t ever doubt that you are not there to help out, be assured that you have done a huge part by asking for prayers…you’ve asked people across the country to pray for them. That’s powerful!
You are ALL in our prayers.
Prayers for your family… and please remember, in the case of your sweet niece/nephew, hydranencephaly isn’t simply a death sentence that the drs make it sound like. There are hundreds of little ones blessing their families for many years to come. Not without their fair share of obstacles, of course, but living and loving life just the same. My son included: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/braydenharper
Wow. I will absolutely be praying for you mom and the rest of your family. It’s good that they caught it early, but scary none the less. I will be praying that the Lord will cover your family and your extended family with His protection, peace, and grace. Love you guys!
Daniel, THANK YOU for being vulnerable enough to share this on here. It is always so hard to know the right words to say when friends are going through such tough times in life. But I will say this . . . we serve a Great God that is BIGGER than any circumstance and is the ultimate Healer! I’m praying for you and your family. I pray for wisdom for the doctors in both situations, strength and peace for you all, and courage for your mom.
Please let me know if there is anything at all that I can do for you guys. Obviously I’ll just keep praying for now.
Daniel,
Thanks for keeping us posted. I have you and your family in continuous prayer. PRAYER IS SO POWERFUL!!! The life of my great nephew Kyle is truly a miracle and the direct result of the power of prayer and God’s grace and mercy. Keep the Faith and continue to expand your list of prayer warriors. God is smiling
Love you guys
@lksee - thanks Leanne…
@APUsinger - thanks, Michelle! I guess just pray, for now…I’ll certainly pass on more info as I get it…
Daniel,
I am sorry your niece/nephew has been diagnosed with hydranencephaly, but children with thsi diagnosis almost always surprise the medical community and bring love and joy to their families for many years. It is true that his/her life will be different that that of a typical child and will most definitely be shorter than a typical child, but these babies/children are wonderful rays of sunshine in our lives. Please send your family to our website and our Yahoo Support Group. Both are invaluable resources. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/hydranencephaly/ and http://www.hydranencephaly.com.With much love to the unborn baby and good wishes for everyone else, I am,Jeanene Headlee in Tucson, AZ.
@Jeanene - wow–thank you! I will pass this on to my brother and family…
My baby niece was born this morning and is stable in the NICU at
Stanford Medical…
At this point, we know every moment of life is a gift.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!
