    I am a musician.

If you’ve hung around here at all you’ve probably gathered that…

But let’s get something straight. I am a commercial musician.

As much as I know about and have respect for classical music, it just isn’t my cup of tea. If you want to talk music with me, let’s talk about film music or pop & rock. I know a thing or two about those topics…as I have committed a great deal of my life to “the great study and pursuit.” (I also know my way around choir and worship music…so we can talk about those things as well. Like such as.) But I am just not a huge classical music-type.

As a commercial musician, I want to work on film and TV. I would love to write one of those arrangements they need every week for American Idol. I would just die to work on a thing like High School Musical 3. I mean, for a commercial musician, there is no cooler gig, right? So why turn up your nose at HSM3? Is it juvenile? Sure. Is it not a depiction of (or anything close) of a real high school experience? No, it is not even close. Is it singing and dancing lead by an incredibly talented team of writers, performers, choreographers, and musicians? YES. Is it fun for the whole family? TOTALLY. Is it even rated G? For General Audiences? YES!!!

Would it be a freaking awesome gig? YOU BETCHA.

So, we went to see it today as a family. The two kids and Christy and I.
    And it.
    Was.
    Great.

I’m telling you. I’m a sucker for amazing musical experiences, and this was one of them. (My all-time favorite musical experience though is still watching the LA PHIL perform Stravinksy’s “Rite of Spring” in 2001.)

I’m just saying. Don’t knock it. Troy and Gabriella forever.

    and yes.

    I cried.

    So shutup.

If you want goosebumps, watch from 1:25-1:45 on this video. The way they did that little interlude is way cool, and the passion you see in Zac Efron’s face is exaclty the reason why he will be a huge star and around Hollywood forever and ever, amen.

  • I have no words for you.

  • @marshallismyalias - oh yes you do.
    Awesomeness.

    and I’ll take it.

  • You… cried??  ?… ?… ?

At least you’re man enough to admit it.

  • A few comments:

    1. Tisdale with that new nose looks like a completely different girl!

    2. I think Corbin Blue (Bleu?) is adorable! (Much cuter than Zac Efron, though I know why he is hyped.)

    3. I also love the kid that plays Sharpay’s brother. I started loving him when he was in Halloweentown.

    4. Hubby thinks I am a huge dork for watching HSM and for loving the Halloweentown movies. Eh? What’s a girl to do?

  • I may have to check this out I know my kids love High School Muscial. I in all honesty have never seen a muscial before.

  • highschool was so like this…I was the token asian kid.

  • I think if you find something you like that you can actually share with your kids and not have them run screaming from the room, go for it.

  • Daniel, I love how honest you are…so…two eProps for you!  I love HSM and actually met one of the guys who co-writes the music from HSM (Andy Dodd).  This was before HSM before ‘El Fuego’ and he left the class because he had to go and write more music for HSM 2.  Darn! ;)   He was in our Young Families class @ YLFC shortly after you guys left the church.  That’s it.  Don’t really KNOW him. . . just met him. . .just being a name dropper.   Wanna rub my elbow for luck?  LOL!

  • So they showed a preview of HSM3 during Dancing with the Stars the other night…the balcony scene waltz…SO GOOD!!

I’m with you, Daniel!!  I’m a musical lover.  Always have been, Always will be.  Can’t wait to see it!  But because I love my husband, I’ll have to wait ’till it comes out on video…

  • @MikeknaJ - you would cry too, if it happened to you

  • @klappyanne - incredibly ironic given that your husband TEACHES HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC!!!!!!

he seriously has to see it. Pronto.

  • @Krissy_Cole - wow. I didn’t even notice AT’s new nose…weird…I’m usually super observant…

    but it was FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • Well, now I’ll have to go see it.  I thought I was just going to wait until it came out on DVD (because no one else wants to see it), but now I’ll just have to find someone to go.  Maybe a couple of the jr. highers.  I heard AT got her nose fixed (ala Jennifer Grey, which was a big mistake), but I haven’t really noticed it in the ads.  Hmmmm.

OK, I just went & watched the video you linked to and now I notice it.  Not too extreme, though.  And yes, I saw the clip they showed on DWTS.  You can totally tell that VH has been taking dance lessons!  She’s moving pretty well in that waltz.

  • Haha.  Don’t tell my husband but I secretly want to see it too.  The first one came out when I was doing my student teaching for a 5th grade class.  I was my master teacher’s assistant for selecting the talent show participants, and then i had to help rehearse them.  Almost everyone wanted to do a song from HSM.  I knew the soundtrack by heart come June.  I still listen to the soundtracks for the first two on my ipod =)

    Just between you and me!

  • @MelodicPuppy - it’s the BEST!!!!! THE BEST!!!

  • Wait, there is a character named Sharpay??
