Movie Buzz
Two movies today. One was awful, and one was fantastic.
I’ll make this quick. I will not beat around the bush. I will get right to the point and not just add filler stuff. No fluff here, just the facts.
“Don’t Mess With the Zohan” was terrible. This was the first movie of The Great Harkins Double-Feature of 2008 and it was a total dud.
I am usually a fan of Adam Sandler. I liked him on SNL, but his movies have been hit and miss for me. Spanglish was great, and I liked 50 First Dates…but this latest movie was horrible. It was stupid, gross, lame, not funny, dumb, yucky, unrealistic, retarded, and did I mention gross? We actually thought it was so lame we walked out. We never walk out of movies. We usually pick good ones. This was not that. Ugh. Do NOT waste your time and money. This was bad.On the other hand, “Get Smart” was awesome. It is everything a blockbuster comedy should be. Steve Carell is hilarious, and with a fantastic script, he is soooooooo funny. I mean, this will probably be the biggest comedy of the summer. I laughed all the way through it…by all means, if you like comedy, go see this movie. I can’t recommend it highly enough. The appeal for this is broad, and the comedy is not stupid humor, it is FUNNY stuff.
Also-I heard that Love Guru has been getting really bad reviews. Blah. Don’t think I’ll see it.

Ule saw all of those this week. He walked out of Love Guru, but Get Smart was supposed to be really good. We went and saw The Happening together which was interesting… I thought the concept was interesting.
The four day passes are sold out and Saturday is also sold out. Friday will be the next to sell out. I’ll check to see what the best shows are for Thursday and Friday. Sundays are fun for kids and author geeks like Margaret but usually all the best are over by then. I will check though and get back to you soon.
Okay, Daniel. Your best bet is to volunteer. You work three hours–that’s all– and a lot of times it is cool behind the scenes jobs that you let you into the con in ways an everyday attender never gets to participate in or see. After the three hours, you have the rest of the day at the con FREE. Margaret would usually watch the kids for three hours while I worked. Then I took the kids with me into the con while she worked her three hours and then we would spend the rest of the time there as a family. Here’s a link that will get you to the volunteer registration. Check it out. https://secure.comic-con.org/common/volunteer_preform.php
Saturday is usually the best day but it is sold out. However, you can get in on Saturday if you volunteer to work that day. Here’s a link to check out some of what’s going on each day. http://www.comic-con.org/cci/ The only days left to purchase tickets are Thursday, Friday, and Sunday so if you do plan to buy a ticket be sure to do so SOON. Hope all this helps, Daniel!
We loved Get Smart! Saw it Sunday night since we didn’t have choir practice.
Some of the college kids from church went to see Zohan & said it was horrible. I was warned off by the previews I saw – along with Love Guru. I do want to see Dark Knight, though, but it looks pretty dark.
