As my wife mentioned in her recent post, I joined LA
Fitness. How could I possibly do this while our finances are in disarray?
I gave up Starbucks.A change had to happen in my life, and it needed to be
drastic (and let me tell you this, it feels great). I had been consistently
tired and relying heavily on caffeine to keep me going. It was working alright,
but I didn’t feel good, I felt dependent. Obviously, I wasn’t addicted, since I
haven’t had coffee in several days and I feel better than ever, but I sure felt
like I was.So the gym costs about a dollar a day, as opposed to the 4
dollar a day Starbucks. It’s actually going to save us quite a bit of
cash…and let me say this—I’m sure I’ll go to the ‘bucks every once in a while
for a treat, so I’m not giving it up completely, just giving it up as a habit.
I’ll probably stop by road trips and stuff…So yeah, that’s pretty big news.
On the bright side, I feel awesome. I’ve never had so much
energy. I FEEL better, I feel happier; it’s really weird that exerting energy
would actually give you so much more of it, but it’s true. I’m making great use
of my iPod’s 6,500 songs, and even after walking out of there on the very first
day I worked out, I felt a huge difference. I’m excited about this new change
in me.Don’t worry, I’m not going to become one of those wacky
people that talk only about working out all the time. I’m not going to go
around telling you how much I bench pressed or how long I spent on the exercise
bike…those people are annoying.Side note: Went to see Nacho Libre last night again with
Christy (her first time). It was funny. Jack Black is just a funny guy, and in
the moments where he really did his thing, were definitely the funniest parts
of the movie. Christy enjoyed it too. Thanks to Joe for watching the kids.I’m taking Christy out on a day long date on Friday. We get
a half day at work, and some folks are watching the kids so we can just go off
and be together for a while and not be pressured about getting here or there
for our dinner reservations or movie times, etc…we’re just going to be together
for a while. It will be nice.

Congrats on working out! You should ask if your gym has any of those bikes hooked up to the internet. Hey, I wanted to ask you if the MW Smith concert at your church is free or needs folks to buy tickets?
^^I think you have to buy tix. I think they’re pretty cheap though–like 15 bucks or so…
Giving up Starbucks? I seem to recall you doing that before.
I give it 3 weeks. 4 tops.
I give it 2.
I have faith in you Daniel!!! You can to it! Congrates on the life change, and for spending more time with your Honey Bunnie……have fun ….
*Drinking a Starbucks doubleshot light, grumbling under my breath about the person who made me join the ‘bucks cult and then left me*
^^Ummm, nope. I’ve never given up Starbucks before. Sorry.
And if you read all the way through, I’m not giving it up COMPLETELY, I’ll probably just have one once in a while, instead of constantly.
And since one of my top strengths is competition, AND you just threw down the gauntlet, you KNOW I’ll win now.
Never give up, NEVER SURRENDER!!
You go Daniel…way to be!! Have a blast with Christy! Enjoying time with your best friend is the GREATEST!!
LA Fitness is great huh, Daniel…although we haven’t been in a while. Exercise is a great way to feel better (awake), without the caffinee. Good luck. Have a great time on your date you guys! :>)
Ok, I was disappointed in the anti-Starbucksness of the post, but then you quoted Galaxy Quest, and redeemed yourself.
Though actually it wasn’t really “anit-Starbucks,” just “anti-spending-4-dollars-a-day-at-Starbucks.” That makes sense. I never go in when I’m not working, it’s too expensive, even with a discount.
I believe in you, Daniel! Much more than your wife does, anyway.
I’ve never given up Starbucks before. Sorry.
Yeah you have. It was just a couple of years ago. It didn’t stick. You’ve obviously blocked it from your memory.
Galaxy Quest sucks hosewater.
I can’t believe you were having Starbucks every day! That’s almost as expensive a habit as smoking. (I really have to give that up.)
) I treat myself to one Starbucks a week, two if I’ve been really good. Tomorrow is my day.
^^^You’re obviously mistaken. I may have talked about it before, but I’ve never actually made the decision to do it. In addition, I had never been as regular at buying them as I was up here. It literally was 1-2 times a day. Which was incredibly expensive–like chain smoking.
I’m definitely not ant-Starbucks, I still love it. I have considered (before) getting a job there so I can get cheaper drinks…never actually did…
OH yeah, and by Grapthaw’s hammer….you will be avenged!
Sorry. Not mistaken. Your 21 year old wife agrees with me.
^^Totally mistaken. We’ve talked. I think Christy understands what I mean now, and may agree with me. There’s a subtle difference between talking about the feeling that you need to give something up, and actually doing it.
I used to drink water out of the hose all the time. What’s wrong with that?
Not mistaken. In your face.
I
love
lamp.
Brick, do you really love lamp?
I really respect your decision re starbucks. I hope it’s contagious- there are a lot of people that are truly addicted, and it’s like the rest of us are encouraging them. Way to go Daniel!!!
Good for you, Daniel! I miss the gym. We gave our up because Dan never had time to go with me, and I went through a dry spell. But I miss the gym.
And boys, does it really matter if he supposedly tried a while ago? Let’s just encourage the poor guy, shall we?
Have you had bad headaches giving it up?
>>>>>Have you had bad headaches giving it up?
Nope. I don’t think I was necessarily addicted…at least I don’t think I was. But literally I feel so good after working out that I don’t want any coffee. I have my heart-healthy blueberry oatmeal instead. Yum. And I feel great!
