Now I've saved over 2GB of space on my Hard Drive!!!! Who knew?? I guess I was bringing in songs at 196bps instead of a regular stereo mix of 128bps...oh well. All that extra space just means more songs to put on my iPod!!! I got a few more soundtracks from my CD archives and added them in...Crimson Tide, Far and Away, Shine, WIlly Wonka, and a couple others...
Saw WAR OF THE WORLDS last night and it gets a REALLY enthusiastic two thumbs up from me! Steven Speilberg at his best, and who gives a care about Tom Cruise's personal life. I am SO over that. I really don't care about movie stars'/famous people in general's personal lives. We all have problems people. It's just that these poor folks have their problems splattered all over the tabloids, and news shows, etc..I don't care!!! I'll tell you how much I like an actor or singer based on their performance and talent-NOT their personal life. All that to say the S.S. and Tom Cruise did a SMASHING job of re-telling the classic H.G. Wells story. It was masterful and beautiful. A tribute to literature and art. The Speilbergian nuance and flavor was there, along with the fright likening to the the very first time you saw Jurassic Park--that kind of scary. I was thrilled with the whole thing, from beginning to end.
Let me also say this-I know I've been giving pretty positive movie reviews lately, this does not mean I am just an ignorant movie lover, or just so excited to go to the theatre that anything I see is great. It means one of two things, (or both)--either I have extremely good taste in movies, so the ones I choose to see are always good, OR it means this is an extraordinary summer for blockbuster movies.
It might be both...
hahahaMike is going to lose at Nertz tonight. I can feel it.

Guess I'm not that able to separate the two. Ideally one would do that, but at some point how a person behaves eventually does influence whether or not I want to watch their movie, or listen to their CD, or hire them to fix my plumbing, etc... Another good example: Michael Jackson. He's one of the most talented pop musicians ever. But because of everything he's done non-musically over the years it has just totally turned me off to his music in general and there's no way I'd ever pay for anything he releases (or released) again. Or Jeremy Roenick, the hockey player. He used to be one of my favorite players, but he recently told the fans, essentially, to just go to hell if they didn't like the reasons for the player's labor position. Well, forget you then Jeremy Roenick. Fans pay your salery and if you want to be a jerk I don't care how talented you are on the ice, I'm not your fan anymore.
Not everything a celeb/famous person does makes me feel that way, but in extreme cases it does change the way I feel about their work.
At NewSong- we have several people who lead worship. This weekend it's Jamie Cameron. Other worship leaders are Eric Herron, Tracy Haraksin, Brian Hill, and our very own Aaron Kolberg. Why?
By the way, the special music we're doing this weekend is Evanescence. It's fun for me on soundboard because I'm active during the song, creating effects and whatnot. It's cool.
I also saw War Of The Worlds. I loved it. Ule actually went to the movies and I went looking for him towards the end so he wouldn't have to walk home, and I didn't know which theater he was in so I went and sat in War Of The Worlds and watched the end of it. (In Hawaii they don't stop you at the door or anything-- you can just walk in! It's wierd. Anyway, it turned out he was in Mr and Mrs Smith but after seeing the last 20 minutes of WOTW I really wanted to see it so the next day me and my brother went and saw it. Excellent!! Loved it. I wasa surprised at how good it was.
Normally I agree with you about stars and their personal lives, but when a star starts spewing untrue dribble (in this case that anti-depressants and things such as ritilin and the like are junk) then I have issues. Whether he wants to be or not, he does have some amount of power in this situation. Do I think that sometimes these drugs are over prescibed? Yes... most definetly. Do I think that under the right supervision, these drugs can be highly beneficial and even life-saving? BIG yes. Now I woudln't hold him accountable if someone said "Ooo.. Tom Cruise said I don't need these things" and stopped taking drugs and harmed themselves... anymore than I would hold a rock band accountable for someone hurting themselves because of music they listen to. But like it or not, I believe he has a responsibility to say "This is what I believe for myself and my family, but others may feel differently"
