  • Sorry for calling everyone an idiot in my last post. Although, if you didn’t see THE ISLAND, I still think you should…

    Going on vacation–so I won’t be posting for a few…

  • Mike tells me that the movie “The Island” bombed this weekend. You idiots should’ve gone to see it!!! I’m actually very suprised, it was a fantastic movie…

    I guess my article on purpose driven eventually made it to Rick Warren’s site PASTORS.COM. Wow. Cool. I’m sure you’ve read it.

    Getting ready for vacation…I think I need to tell you though, that it has been an interesting journey through the book of Mark so far. We started a new study in our small group on Jesus Christ (Experiencing Christ Together) and I’ve been reading Mark on this study plan…anyways, I decided to put a word to describe and attribute of Jesus’ character beside every day’s reading that describes something about Jesus that I should learn from or emulate. Aspects like Teacher, and Healer and the like went quickly, so after that I had to be creative and really start asking God, “What do you want me to see about you today in this passage??” and He has given me some really cool things….

    I encourage you to try it…

    Back to finishing up the orchestration for Doc for HERE I AM. Great song…

  • The party was a hit! Many Madagascar things all around the park, including the soundtrack playing in the background…pizza, swings, grass, pinata, home-made cake, what else could anyone ask for??? Oh yeah, and a bunch of presents. So many presents that we decided not to get him anything. I know, that sounds harsh, but we’re really trying not to let him develop the whole “it’s all about me” – I’m-so-spoiled thing. Obviously, we’re being reasonable, not just depriving him of stuff for the heck of it, but there was no need for us to add to the inordinate amount of gifts he received from our dearly loved friends.

    So, every five minutes…can I open this now? Can I play with my basketball now? etc..etc..etc..

    And heck! We’ve spent like 20 bucks just on batteries for all this stuff…I guess that’s our present! HA!!

    Oh yeah- a tragic thing happened today…I accidentally copied an OLD version of a song I was working on orchestrating OVER the most RECENT one. It wasn’t just a file, the whole darn folder. I was taking it from my work computer to my home computer, and I grabbed the folder to throw it on my jump drive, but actually grabbed the one that was on the jump drive from this morning and copied it right over the newest one. ARGH!! It was sickening. I lost about 2 hours of work…I actually felt sick to my stomach. I called anyone I could think of to help, but no luck. I searched the internet for hours looking for something that recover the file. I downloaded two different file recovery programs that didn’t find it. I searched the apple discussions page-other people were researching. It was hopeless. I finally just did it over again, but here’s the thing. It will never be the same. I don’t remember exactly how I had it earlier, though I remember I loved it. I tried to replicate it, but I felt like I was missing something. It is so sad. The flow I had in the first version was a very in-the-moment-go-with-the-flow thing…so you see why I was devastated. The whole time I’m saying, “God, what are you trying to teach me. What!!!??! Just teach me already so I can get that darn file!!!!!” I’m sure I’ll discover the lesson soon enough…

  • Today is Nathaniel’s birthday and so it all comes out…homemade cake and icing, presents, cupcakes for his preschool (also homemade…) the whole themed b-day party complete w/pinata (what San Diego party doesn’t have one of those??).

    More on that later..

    Good news! My parents got an iMac G5!! Yay!! It’s only the best computer in the world…I’m so happy for them. They also got us an iSight camera so we can both do video calls on the web and they can see the kids and stuff..it’s all very exciting. And yes, maybe I will become a salesperson for Apple…

  • Val emailed me this thing and it is SO funny (if you have a good sense of humor, that is) so I had to share it. Obviously, I never do this.

    ALSO-b4 the jokes-I’m listening to the new Nichole Nordeman album and it’s cool (titled: Brave). There is one song on there called “Crimson” which is actually one of the coolest songs I’ve ever heard in my life. The only accompaniment is a pianist playing Chopin’s Prelude #4 in Em (and a little Cello, also). She sings this haunting melody over the top of it with beautiful words and it is seriously just the most creative thing ever. You’ve got to hear it-go to iTunes and listen…I’m creatively tickled by it!! How genious!

    Ok- onto the funnies…

    Answer these 4 questions:

    1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?

    The correct answer is: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe, and close the door. This question tests whether you tend to do simple things in an overly complicated way.

    2. How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

    Did you say, Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant, and close the refrigerator?

    Wrong Answer.

    Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant and close the door. This tests your ability to think through the repercussions of your previous actions.

    3. The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All the animals attend… except one. Which animal does not attend?

    Correct Answer: The Elephant. The elephant is in the refrigerator. You just put him in there. This tests your memory. Okay, even if you did not answer the first three questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show your true abilities.

    4. There is a river you must cross but it is used by crocodiles, and you do not have a boat. How do you manage it?

    Correct Answer: You jump into the river and swim across. Have you not been listening? All the crocodiles are attending the Animal Meeting. This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.

    According to Anderson Consulting Worldwide, around 90% of the professionals they tested got all questions wrong, but many preschoolers got several correct answers. Anderson Consulting says this conclusively disproves the theory that most professionals have the brains of a four-year-old.

  • Saddleback was incredible. Life changing. I wrote a couple of entries on the pdworshipcommunity.com blog during the conference. I’m pretty sure they’re both there–and I know that at least one of them is (but I’m buds with Melissa, who runs the pdworshipcommunity-so I’m pretty sure they’re both there…). You should go check them out for more info–just go here.

    I also got to connect with a few old friends while I was there…I got John Burdett’s # and called him, plus I saw Andy Balch–a guy who is single-handedly responsible for changing my life in 1998 (he introduced me to boxer-briefs and The Gap). Seriously, I’ve never been the same…It was a blast!

    Go read my blog entries on the pdworshipcommunity page for more info…

  • Saw Fantastic Four yesterday. I was unimpressed. It is by no means a bad movie, it was very entertaining, it just paled in comparison to the incredible movies I’ve seen so far this summer (War of the Worlds, The Island, Star Wars Ep III, Batman Begins). I would say it is about as good as the first X-Men movie, or perhaps as good as the first Spiderman, but not as good as either sequal-which leads to the problem with some superhero flicks, sequals have the potential to be better because there is too much of a rush through character development in the first movies to get to the action. In FF, I thought the action/battle between good-evil was too short and the villian underdeveloped…it was all just a little bit under par…

    I give one thumb up (out of a possible TWO for me, personally) for an entertaining summer popcorn flick-not too much too handle, just right for a little fun. We’ll see what Janke has to say…

  • A lot has been going on lately…

    Saddleback worship conference and festival is this Tue-Fri. I am looking forward to it as a time to refresh and renew…I’m also glad that five members of our worship ministry are coming with us–it will have a tremendous influence on their life for God. What a cool thing!

    I also saw a sneak preview of “THE ISLAND” last night at the AMC 24 on Palm…what a great flick!! It doesn’t come out until the 22nd, but when it does, you should definately go see it. Check out the site for trailers and stuff…a WAY enthusiastic two thumbs up!!! We’ll see what Mike has to say about it…

    Thanks for your prayers. I have five arrangements done for the brass xmas album that we’re putting out this year. If we add two from another friend, that makes seven total out of eleven, and that’s not too bad. Just a few more to go, and we can record…

  • Not much to report…

    I’m practicing “Battle of the Heroes” from a new SW Ep III piano book I bought. Christy hates it-our grand piano is too loud in the house and it is a loud piece…it’s like fingernails on the chalkboard to her. HAHA!

    Can’t believe July is here…

    Noah got his hearing tested yesterday and it turns out he’s NOT deaf, just ignoring us…ha!! He is actually quite smart…he just tunes us out and chooses not to respond, especially when he’s watching VEggie Tales. He’s quite the fellow…I love him to death!!!

    I finished a fourth arrangement for the Helix Brass album. Just seven more to go…I have Silent Night more than half-way done, I’m just stuck at one part of it for a little while.

    Trying to plan for TWO weeks of Sunday services since I’m going to Saddleback for most of next week-that’s a challenge, but I’m better off doing it. The last two years I would come out of a class on Thursday of the conference and remember that I hadn’t planned anything for Sunday…OOPS!! This is better…

    You guys can pray for me that God guides me and that I stay close to Him throughout the Summer. These last few days I have been feeling a little stressed, and have definately been unbalanced. I’m attempting to get back into exercising after not doing it for about a week. That’s not very long, but it has been my goal for the past 60 days to be exercising 4-5 times a week, and I did it except for last week…argh! That may be one of the reasons I’m feeling unbalanced…

    Psalm 142

    1 I cry aloud to the LORD;
    I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.
    2 I pour out my complaint before him;
    before him I tell my trouble.

    3 When my spirit grows faint within me,
    it is you who know my way.
    In the path where I walk
    men have hidden a snare for me.

    4 Look to my right and see;
    no one is concerned for me.
    I have no refuge;
    no one cares for my life.

    5 I cry to you, O LORD;
    I say, “You are my refuge,
    my portion in the land of the living.”

    6 Listen to my cry,
    for I am in desperate need;
    rescue me from those who pursue me,
    for they are too strong for me.

    7 Set me free from my prison,
    that I may praise your name.
    Then the righteous will gather about me
    because of your goodness to me.

  • Great performance last night for the Midway Praise Choir and Orchestra! A great way to end off the year!!

    Looking forward to attending the Saddleback conference in a week. It’ll be a good break…
