Highlights from Psalm 71 (my favorite parts!!)
———–
1 In you, O LORD , I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame.5 For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD ,
my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
I will ever praise you.8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.12 Be not far from me, O God;
come quickly, O my God, to help me.14 But as for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.
15 My mouth will tell of your righteousness,
of your salvation all day long,
though I know not its measure.
16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD ;
I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone.
17 Since my youth, O God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.19 Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God,
you who have done great things.
Who, O God, is like you?22 I will praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you-
I, whom you have redeemed.
24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
all day long,

A few things that I see here:
God is a protector-David has trusted in the Lord since BIRTH!! Since he was young. That’s a lot of trust and faith-and we know the story of David and Goliath, so we can really say, “Yeah, I guess he has trusted him for a LONG time”. I don’t know if I can say that my trust has been that unwavering. I grew up in a Godly household, and I have trusted the Lord since I was young, but let’s be honest. Daily trusted?? WIth a faith like David?? I think I have some work to do…Many times here Dave says that he is proclaiming the praises of God all day long. In v8, 15, and 24. I think this is an area where many of us fail (myself included). I even work in a church surrounded by other church people…does that mean that I am declaring the praises of God ALL DAY LONG? No. But I need to. I think my life would significantly change if I practiced the talking faith of David. Praying all day. Praising God all day. How could you go wrong?? Where would your attitude be? It would probably be right on the money…what distractes us from this task? Work? People? Situations? Whatever…help me Lord to focus on YOU all day long. To sing of Your praises all day, to pray to you and talk to you all day…wow, then, I think, people might really see Christ in me.
btw- I got a really encouraging phone message from Mike Speck. I’ll bring it to the next choir practice for y’all to listen to. He’s also going to type up something for me to read to the choir. Exciting!!!

AMEN brother!!! I think we could all do with a little more praises to the Lord… I think that maybe David had alot more quite time … being in the desert and all…… an occasional Bear, Lion, Giant, assassin whatever, but thats about it…. I mean aren’t our distractions as importent. Yeah His were life or death,,,, but ours (MINE) ??????? Am I pitiful or what?? Thanks for the insight my friend!
What do you mean we have to wait until NEXT Tuesday to hear what Mike said….. A whole WEEK…. now thats just mean! You shouldn’t tease your choir members that way… they might just curse your next nertz game…. think about it.
